The Graduate Theology Program at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology provides a high-quality theological education rooted in Benedictine hospitality and spirituality. Our flexible program offers opportunities for intellectual, human, spiritual, and pastoral formation in the Catholic tradition in preparation for compassionate ministry.
Mission Statement
The mission of Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology is the initial and ongoing formation of priests, permanent deacons, and laity to minister together effectively in the service and evangelization of the Roman Catholic Church and the world. The long tradition and rich Benedictine heritage of Saint Meinrad instill:
- A love of learning integrated with a lifelong seeking of God,
- A strong grounding in tradition and an ability to attend to the signs of the times (Gaudium et spes, 4),
- A love of the Church’s liturgy and a personal commitment to a life of prayer and service,
- A sense of hospitality that welcomes Christ in each person and in the community of disciples gathered in Christ’s name.
Formation within the Graduate Theology Program integrates human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral components directed toward Church ministry and personal growth.
Qualifying Programs for NACC Certification
The Graduate Theology Program at Saint Meinrad offers degree and certificate programs with weekend, online, hybrid intensive, and weekday class options. The M.A. in theology requires three classes to have an in-person component while certificates can be completed online. The following programs satisfy the academic prerequisites for initial chaplain certification.
Board Certified Chaplain (BCC, BCC-VA) – Master’s Degree
- Master of Arts in Theology (M.A.)-can accept one unit of CPE as three graduate credits
- Specialization certificates below can be taken as concentrations within the M.A. in Theology
Certified Associate Chaplain (CAC) – 18 Graduate Credit Certificate Programs
- Master’s degree above
- Certificate in General Theological Studies-can accept one unit of CPE as three graduate credits
- Specialization Certificates (these can be taken standalone)
- Ethics and Moral Theology
- Pastoral Studies-can accept one unit of CPE as three graduate credits
