Prayer for the Sick on World Day of the Sick
Almighty and Eternal God, you love humanity so much that you could not withhold but freely gave up your beloved son, Jesus so that humanity might be made whole again. That means nothing is too big for you to do for humanity’s sake. Your word says in Psalm 41:3 that the Lord will heal those who are sick and restore their health. You also said in Isaiah 55:10-11 that just as the rain and snow come down from heaven and do not return to heaven without watering the earth and making what has been sown to germinate, so does your word not return to you empty but accomplishes what you desire and achieves the purpose for which you send it. You made every part of the human person, and whatever function each part does, is only in obedience to your command. We bring the sick before your throne of mercy on this Word Day of the Sick, that through the power of the Holy Spirit, the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Saints, and the good works of all who care for the sick, you may touch and make whole all that need to be made whole in them. Heal every disease, heal every illness, and restore their health as your word proclaims. We make this prayer confident that we have been heard through Christ our Lord. Amen
